Demolition of Madison Park North Apartments to start

The team redeveloping the site of the Madison Park North Apartments said they will start tearing down the troubled complex in December.

The demolition job, which involves asbestos removal and recycling much of the brick and concrete, is expected to take five to six months, said P. David Bramble, managing partner at Baltimore-based MCB Real Estate.

MCB, with a portfolio that includes the former PEMCO property in East Baltimore, has the Reservoir Hill site under contract. Developer Mark Renbaum’s MLR Partners, which is working on the Northwood Plaza redevelopment near Morgan State University, is involved too.

The project could include several hundred apartments, a grocery store and other retail, under preliminary plans discussed with at least one neighborhood group. Any new construction is likely at least one or two years away, Bramble told the Neighborhood Coalition for Madison Park North Redevelopment, a collection of neighborhood groups, this week.
