BDC seeks bids for West Lexington Street building

The Baltimore Development Corp. on Wednesday asked for offers from developers for a six-story commercial building near Lexington Market, saying it was opening the property to bid after an unsolicited proposal.

The BDC, the development arm of the city, did not disclose what firm made the offer for the 109-111 W. Lexington Street property and officials did not respond to requests for comment. The building is about 16,300 square feet.

The BDC wants to see the ground floor of the building, acquired by the city in 1993 for $250,000, rehabilitated within a year. It will privilege offers that put the full building to use, according to the request for proposals.

The building was previously offered to developers but the responses weren’t strong enough, said BDC spokeswoman Susan Yum. She said BDC is hoping that other investments in the area will spur greater interest this time.
